Grounded 2 Will Include Arachnophobia Mode

If you aren’t a fan of spiders, that doesn’t count you out of playing Obsidian Entertainment’s Honey I Shrunk the Kids-inspired co-op romp, Grounded 2.

During some playtime at Summer Game Fest, Polygon got a chance to talk with game director Chris Parker and the convo turned to its arachnophobia mode. Naturally, as the original game had it included, too, which made the arachnid foes look more like balloon animals than spiders, all the team had to do this time around was to tweak it a bit and build off of the original’s structure.

This is easier said than done, though, as unlike the original, Grounded 2 introduces rideable creatures, including a spider that will appear in the full game. Due to this, they had to calculate feet and all that so that players know what’s going on.

“But we certainly have more challenges. And so we have to respect arachnophobia mode for that as well, which has been a little bit more tricky. We have to calculate feet, and things like that, so you can really understand what’s going on, and how to run that thing around the world, and how the world is going to interact back with it. It’s tricky, but it’s probably not as tricky as you think. We really just go onto the skeleton and put cute-looking spheres where claws and eyeballs and abdomens used to be. And as long as we take it far enough away from that eight-legged insect, that seems to work for people. So yeah, it’s not all that crazy.”

Grounded 2 is right around the corner, releasing on July 29, so we don’t have that long to wait.
