Xbox’s Third-Party Support Is In Danger

Select third-party publishers are questioning whether it’s worth supporting Xbox as it consistently flatlines in sales, especially in the EU. Really, it will take a miracle for Xbox to overtake PlayStation, but we’re sure most publishers aren’t looking at supporting just the top-dog.

During GDC this year, GamesIndustry.biz head Chris Dring expressed how declining sales and its lackluster performance in Europe may lead to publishers simply not supporting the platform. Last year, Microsoft has admitted to “losing the console war” in documents as part of its Activision Blizzard acquisition case, per IGN.

GI previously asserted that stores in the EU are stocking less and less Xbox Series consoles, some of its exclusives are heading out to other platforms, and reports of the PS5 and Series X|S selling 2-1 of each other. All of that just spells disaster for Xbox, but we can still hold out hope that things will get better over time.

“I thought it would be fine, but then I didn’t really factor in that some developers and publishers might just go, ‘yeah I don’t, you know, is there any point?’ And that is when you can lose it.”

What do you think? Are you still holding onto hope that Xbox will turn things around?
