The $80 Price On The Outer Worlds 2 Is Out Of Obsidian’s Control

Obsidian Entertainment’s Brandon Adler shares that they do not set the prices of their games and The Outer Worlds 2‘s $80 price point is all on Xbox. The controversial move could be seen as a way to push people toward Game Pass.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Adler clarified that and that he wishes “everyone could play” their upcoming RPG, but if fans have an issue with the price, they have to take it up with Xbox.

“We’re a game developer. We love to make games. We don’t set the prices for our games. Personally, as a game developer, I wish everybody could play my game, because that’s what I want out of this whole thing. But for the reasons and so like, why the $79.99 price point, you’d have to honestly talk to the Xbox folks.”

This isn’t totally out of left field, as Xbox did warn players of price increases to their hardware and software. That said, The Outer Worlds 2 marks Xbox’s first $80 game, following in the footsteps of Nintendo.
