Starfield Wasn’t “Anywhere Near Successful Enough” For Sequel
If you were around for the launch of the ever-controversial Starfield, you’d know that it was… not that well received. Both critics and audiences were left disappointed from what was on offer thanks in large part to excessive loading screens and an overall boring game. Well, it’s also likely that this was an endeavor that will never be touched again.
In an interview with FRVR, ex-lead systems designer, Kurt Kuhlmann, who actually was part of Starfield’s development, spilled the beans that he’d be “very surprised” if a sequel was to come out and that the original wasn’t “anywhere near successful enough” to lead to a sequel to get the greenlight.
“I would be very surprised [if there was a sequel]. don’t think Starfield was anywhere near successful enough to do a Starfield 2.”
Now, that said, he does believe their ambition of what they wanted to make could come to life with another shot and made closer to what Todd Howard had dreamt up with all that ambition dripping from every part of development. It would have total freedom for the player to explore planets, it would have a cool story and characters, it would have it all.
In the end, it had nothing like what fans had been hoping for. Granted, some of those big problems were left in the dust thanks to their Free Lanes update.
Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything soon as Bethesda is now locked in on The Elder Scrolls VI release whenever that may be. Meanwhile, their next big project is Fallout 5, which is in pre-production.
