Sea Of Thieves Is Adding Paid Custom Servers

Next year is gonna be a wild time for Sea of Thieves lovers as Rare is adding paid custom servers. Fair warning, though, it likely won’t be cheap.

In a Community Direct the dev hosted, a ton was revealed about the game’s future. These plans were shared following the massive layoffs across Microsoft’s gaming space, which included the cancellation of Rare’s Everwild,

The subscription will come packaged with not only your own private server that you can fill with your friends, but also the cinematic camera, which Rare’s own video team uses to create trailers. No concrete release was shared, but we know it’s coming sometime in 2026 and will likely not be cheap.

Sea of Thieves remains a rather big IP, one of those few successful live service games, for both Rare and Microsoft, even dropping anchor as one of the first Xbox games to head to PlayStation (and it being quite successful at that).
