Grounded Will Remain Playable As Sequel Looms

While Grounded 2 looms overhead with a July 29 release, fans can rest easy knowing that Obsidian Entertainment has no plans to make the game unplayable. Additionally, thanks to using peer-to-peer connections, it’s even less likely to be killed off.

In a Eurogamer interview, executive producer Marcus Morgan explained that while Obsidian is largely done with the original Grounded, only offering up patches to fix bugs, the game will remain available and playable. The game will no longer get new content, which isn’t too shocking as the sequel’s development began because of the studio running out of space.

All in all, if you want more Grounded content, you’ll have to fork $30 to jump into its Game Preview model.

“Now, are we going to be doing content and these story expansions to Grounded 1? No, that’s the continuation of Grounded 2. But even as recently as April we released our [update] 1.4.7 to Grounded 1, so there’s a maintenance and a desire that that game will always exist. So we’ll keep that up; it’s not going anywhere if people still want to play Grounded 1 as well.

But we are, in terms of where we’re moving the story, where we’re expanding things: if you want more Grounded, we’ll be more into Grounded 2 versus Grounded 1. We’re pushing things forward with Grounded 2.”
