Ex-Microsoft exec Peter Moore isn’t sure what the future would’ve held if the console maker didn’t fix the infamous Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death issue that plagued early models.
During a discussion with The Game Business, Moore touched on that little tidbit, as well as how important Xbox was to the gaming scene. He even went as far as saying that gaming wouldn’t be anywhere near the level it is today without the brand.
“That’s where a lot of the money was, […] the overnight FedEx, UPS and DHL or whatever was being used at that time.
But the one thing I will always say is this was, for us, a defining moment. If we hadn’t done what we did, I’m not sure the Xbox brand would be around today.”
Now, he’s mostly rooted in the sports scene since departing Unity in 2023. But, he thinks back fondly of his time at Xbox and Microsoft as a whole, as it was a “different vibe” to his previous role at SEGA.
What do you think? If Xbox moved forward with Xbox One and didn’t fix the RROD, would you still buy a console from them? Let us know below!
