Fable Isn’t Scared Of “Big Games,” But Is Glad To Be Out Of The “Chaotic Window”
It’s an open secret that the release of Grand Theft Auto VI led to some games being slapped with a delay of not just a week or two, but an entire month. Fable was one such game, but game director Ralph Fulton asserts the delay wasn’t to avoid other big games.
Speaking to IGN at gamescom, Fulton noted they are “a big game,” too and that he’s “happy to go toe-to-toe” with other games.
“People keep saying that to me, but we don’t run scared of other big games. We’re a big game ourselves. We hold ourselves to high standards. I’m happy to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of other games. There’s just one that I’m happy to avoid entirely.”
That isn’t to say he isn’t glad to avoid such conflict, calling the month and surrounding month a “chaotic window.” I do think there’s behind that — they aren’t just delaying the game to leap out of a really cramped last period of the year. Outside of GTA VI no doubt dominating the space, fellow XBOX studio, The Coalition, is poised to release Gears of War: E-Day in October. Other big games slated for the rest of year include Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Silent Hill: Townfall.
Now, to be clear, Playground isn’t going up against lightweight games in February, either. February is seeing God of War Laufey, Metro 2039, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, so it’s not like they’re truly running away from all big releases.
