Celeste, TowerFall Delisted On XBOX To Support BDS Movement
You may remember earlier in the month, developer House House made headlines for not developing an Xbox Series version of their latest walking (quite literally) simulator, Big Walk. It wasn’t clear why until the dev made a statement, pointing to the BDS Movement. Now, another indie dev has taken a stance, delisting both Celeste and TowerFall out of the blue, pointing to the same movement.
Originally, the reason behind the delisting was a mystery, but Celeste co-creator, Maddy Thorson, broke the silence confirming that they were pulled to support the BDS boycott.
It’s not a hard delist, though, owners of the games can still play them on XBOX platforms, it seems, but for the foreseeable future, fans can expect radio silence for future XBOX releases from Thorson. Similar sentiments to when House House came out were shared about the performativeness of the delisting, pointing to how it can still be purchased on PC, which is near monopolized by Microsoft’s Windows.
