Avowed Confirmed To Run At 30fps On Xbox Series X|S

Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed, is confirmed to be capped at running at 30fps on the Xbox Series X|S. The studio’s always been eyeing 30fps since starting development.

During an episode of the Iron Lord Podcast, some of the devs behind the project discussed the game, deflecting the reason behind the capped framerate on the genre of the game. They believe because it’s a single-player first-person experience, it isn’t important to have 60fps.

UPDATE:#AVOWED Devs on 60fps mode for console.

30fps is the minimum, they believe that since the game is a first person single player game you don't need a 60fps mode. 30fps was target since the begining of development.

It’s possible Obsidian might introduce a dedicated 60fps patch or sneak it in there as part of a larger post-launch patch, but with the mindset of the devs, it sounds unlikely.

What’s more likely is that Avowed simply can’t run even a half-stable 60fps on the Series S, which Microsoft requires parity between the versions for the game to be greenlit. Unfortunately, the all-digital Series S has a massive power discrepancy compared to its beefier brother.

This hardware difference has been something of a headache for developers looking to bring their games to the platform.
