Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, who departed earlier in the year, has lightly opened up about how the launch of the Xbox 360 was “very, very scary.” While Sony did eventually take the lead at the tail-end of the generation, Xbox had the upper hand, releasing around a year earlier.
Speaking with MinnMax, Yoshida passively mentioned that the launch of the Xbox 360 was scary. He didn’t really explain much, though, we suspect it might’ve been due to the console arriving on the scene before the PS3’s debut.
“Of course, the Xbox 360 launching the year before, was very, very scary.”
The Xbox 360 debuted in late 2005 in comparison to late 2006 for the PS3. Moreover, the PS3 had less appeal to many thanks to its price and technical stuff that led to it being harder to develop for than other platforms.
