Final Fantasy 16 Faces Backlash Poor Performance On Xbox

Square Enix has finally brought Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox, but as it turns out, it comes at a cost, that being performance issues.

Digital Foundry points out that the graphics mode is weird compared to the PS5, with the Series X offering consistently lower resolution, despite being mostly on-par — if not more powerful — than the PlayStation 5.

“The graphics mode has some weird problems relative to PS5. Firstly, the Series X is softer and lower resolution.”

Particularly, the biggest oddity, to us, is the performance mode, which runs at 720p while PS5 runs at 1080p. That said, it sounds like it has a bit more consistent gameplay framerate, locked at 60FPS on the Series X’s lower resolutions.

Considering they’re planning to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Xbox, we certainly hope things are ironed out and it’s at least as good as their PlayStation counterpart, as Square Enix is shifting away from releasing games exclusively to a single platform.
